Lipid Profile

Total, “bad” (LDL) and “good” (HDL) cholesterol and triglycerides — to assess heart disease risk.

A lipid profile measures total cholesterol, LDL (“bad”) cholesterol that builds up in arteries, HDL (“good”) cholesterol that protects them, and triglycerides, which change a lot with food and sugar.

Targets depend on your situation: often LDL under 100, HDL above 40 in men and 50 in women, and triglycerides under 150. Your doctor sets the goal based on blood pressure, diabetes, smoking and family history.

Preparation before the test

  • Fast 10–12 hours before the sample (water only).
