  3. Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)

Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA)

An important check for men over fifty to follow prostate health.

PSA is a protein made by the prostate. It rises with benign enlargement and inflammation, and sometimes with cancer.

A high result is not a diagnosis by itself; the doctor decides the next step from age, examination and the Free PSA ratio.

Preparation before the test

  • Avoid ejaculation for 48 hours before.
  • Avoid cycling and heavy exercise for two days before.
  • Wait a week after a prostate examination or cystoscopy.

This information is for awareness only and is not a substitute for medical advice — your treating doctor interprets the result for your case.
