Glycated Haemoglobin (HbA1c)

Your average blood sugar over the last 3 months — the key test for diabetes follow-up, no fasting needed.

HbA1c measures the share of haemoglobin bound to glucose, which reflects your average sugar over the past 2–3 months, so yesterday’s meal does not change it.

Below 5.7% is normal, 5.7–6.4% is prediabetes, and 6.5% or more is diabetes. Many people with diabetes aim for under 7% as advised by their doctor; the test is repeated every 3 months.

Preparation before the test

  • No fasting needed; it can be done any time.
